Re-order the module menu View

Module menu items can be dragged and dropped to rearrange the order of the module menu and this includes subheaders and dividers.

  1. Hover the mouse pointer over the menu item you want to move.
  2. Click on the double headed-arrow that appears next to the item and drag and drop it in the new position on the menu, as shown below.

  3. Accessibility note. You can reorder module menu items using your keyboard by clicking the icon highlighted below to access the facility shown here. Select the item you want to move and use the up/down arrows to move it. (Note: you might find that this doesn’t work on computers running Windows 7 & Internet Explorer 8. Switch to a different browser such as Firefox.)

Edit items on module menu (delete, hide, rename) View

Each item on the module menu can be edited in some way, to delete it (which will also remove all the contents of the section it links to so be careful) rename it or hide it. Dividers and subheaders also have some editing options.

  1. Hover your mouse pointer to the right of the item you want to edit as in the screenshot below.

  2. Click on the downward arrow icon to access a pop-up menu relating specifically to that item (the menu options will differ from item to item). These are top-level functions which will generally include an option to Rename the module menu link, Hide or Show the link to the students, or Delete the item and all of its content altogether.

  3. Exercise caution with this Delete function as it will permanently remove the content as well as the module menu link for that section. It is better just to Hide item from students in case you want to re-use content at a later point, or you mistakenly delete some content that cannot currently be recovered (there is no Undo facility in VITAL).

How do I control the announcement emails I get from VITAL? View
If you are getting too many email alerts in your Outlook inbox for module announcements, you can switch most of these off from your VITAL Homepage using the My Blackboard menu. Many events in VITAL modules, including announcements, can create a notification (assignment submitted, test needs grading etc). The My Blackboard menu has an Updates area where these can be monitored and managed. Only announcements are set to generate an email alert by default.

From here you can also manage events that create email alerts and Blackboard Mobile alerts, such as new module announcements. Below is a quick overview of the process. For full details on how to do this please see this eLearning Unit 'How to' guide: Manage your notification settings.

On your VITAL homepage, click the My Blackboard button which contains your name in the top-right of the page, as in the screenshot below.

On the 'My Blackboard' menu select the Settings button and the the Edit Notifications Settings linkFrom here you can turn email and mobile alerts on and off either for individual modules or for modules in a batch (Bulk Edit Notification Settings).

The alerts are turned on and off by checking and unchecking the relevant boxes as shown here (turning off Announcement email alerts).

nb Module Instructors can still override your preference if the announcement is important.

You can also manage these notifications and view them by module by clicking on the Updates area of the My Blackboard menu, as below.

To access the management area, click the cogwheel icon (shown below), scroll to the bottom of the pop-up menu that appears and click the link View Notification Settings.
